The Chemistry Department at the University of
South Dakota (USD) offers a Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU)
program sponsored by the National Science Foundation. Students spend
ten weeks during the summer conducting research projects in the laboratories
of USD faculty mentors. Students earn a $4,000 stipend plus $500 in
living expenses. Funding for materials and supplies and the opportunity to
attend a national scientific meeting (NCUR or ACS) are also provided.
Research
activity concentrates on photodynamics and nanoscience. One-on-one
research experiences with a USD faculty member in Chemistry or Physics are
provided along with a weekly afternoon workshop series covering different
photodynamics and nanoscience related issues.
Several
social events are planned over the course of the summer including barbecues,
a canoe trip and lunch on the Missouri River,
Minor League Baseball, and Field trips to Lewis and Clark Reservoir and
Spirit Mound. At the end of the summer, all students will complete a
poster of their research which will be presented to the Department.
Application
deadline is Friday March 28, 2008. Applications can be downloaded either
in .pdf (left) or .doc (below) format.
