Dear Parents:
Today your child is bringing home his or her first kindergarten report card and a checklist of skills. I hope you will help this to be a very positive experience for your child. The report card is designed to show us what skills the child has already pretty well mastered (or demonstrates on a regular basis) and which skills are in the process of developing. “Developing” does not indicate that there is a problem- it provides us with an idea of what area we can work on to help continue growth.
The “Skills Checklist” contains skills that we would like to help the children accomplish by the end of the kindergarten year. Some of the skills have not been introduced yet or were introduced just recently.
If you go over the forms with you child, you can let your child know how proud you are of all the things they can already do. Skills they don’t have yet can be viewed as some things we can both work on the help them.
The copy of the Skills Checklist is yours to keep. I’ll update you on their progress with this at our conference in the spring. The report card needs to be returned Monday and will be filled out again at the end of the second semester and returned to you to keep.
If you have any questions or would like to schedule a conference before spring PLEASE give me a call (school: or home: ). If you have any feedback on the forms themselves we would appreciate your input.
Thanks for all of your help. As you can see, the children have accomplished a great deal in just half a year!
Sincerely,
