- 1987 - Cutter and costume craft's artesian at Alabama ShakespeareFestival,
Montgomery AL. Duties included cutting and tailoringfor the productions of
Othello and Hedda Gableras well as dyeing, painting, jewelry
and shoe making crafts foradditional productions.
- 1987 - Wardrobe assistant for Radio City Music Hall designerJoyce Aysta
for the ABC production of the Opening Ceremoniesof the International Summer
Special Olympics. Duties includedfit and alterations of over five hundred
costumes in a two-weekperiod.
- 1983 - First hand Alabama Shakespeare Festival, Anniston AL.Duties included
cutting, stitching and fitting of several productions.Also included assisting
designer Susie Cox on certain portionsof Taming of the Shrew.
- 1982 - Assistant costume shop manager at Great Lakes ShakespeareFestival,
Cleveland OH. Duties included purchasing, assistingdesigners Lew Rampino and
Gene Lakin as needed and crafts suchas dyeing.
- 1980-83 Costume shop assistant at the Krannert Center forthe Performing
Arts. Duties included all aspects of costume constructionand crafts.
- Assistant to James Berton Harris, costume designer: Ariadneauf Naxos
for Illinois Opera Theatre, Misalliance forIllinois Summer Repertory

Honors and Recognition
- 2005 and 2006 student designer received first place in the Regional ACTF
Barbazon Design Competition for Costume Design as well as 2005 2nd place nationally
at the Kennedy Center in Costume Design.
- 1999 recipient of Governor Janklow's Faculty Awards for Teaching with Technology.
The project entitled Integrating Technology in Costume Design involved development
of interactive CD-ROM entitled The Elements and Principles of Design; setting
up a Design and Technology computer lab for the Department of Theatre; and
redesigning Thea 443: Costume Design to include computer based technology
for teaching and rendering of graphic designs.
- 1999 Nominated by the University of South Dakota for an Award for Innovative
Excellence in Teaching, Learning and Technology and the Boyer Award , both
presented by The Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning, Jacksonville,
FL.
- Chosen by jury to have theatrical costume designs displayed as a part of

- One of twelve faculty members chosen to participate in the inaugural year
of the Center for Instructional Design and Delivery, an initiative of the
University of South Dakota (in 2006 renamed the Center for Teaching and Learning)

with Computers: Before the Training Wheels Come Off" for the University
and College Theatre Commission of the United States Institute of Theatre Technology,
national conference, Long Beach, CA, March 19, 1998.
- USD Faculty Development Grant entitled "Application of Multimedia Computer
Technology to the Teaching of Costume History" the implementation of
which was undertaken June 1995 and completed by December 1995. This grant
supported attendance at two workshops of the Institute for Educational Technology
in Durham, NC. The workshops developed the skills necessary to allow me to
undertake development of the prototype for my multimedia textbook of Costume
History.
- USD Travel mini-grant to attend ATHE conference for presentation of paper
"Considerations in Resetting Period Plays: The Designer's Perspective",
Seattle, WA, August 1991.

- Invitation to present on panel entitled "Teaching with Computers: Before

Wheels Come Off" at the USITT (United States Institute of Theatre Technology)
National Conference in Long Beach, CA in March, 1998.
- Member of costume jury panel for "Theatre 2000 Project" an initiative
of USITT
compiling 2000 theatrical designs on the WWW by the year 2000. Required making
qualification judgements about both the designs and the web site development.
