During the Spring and Summer of 2006, Professor Baron also worked closely with ATLA and other groups by providing pro bono assistance to Congress in its work on the 2006 Pension Reform Act as its provisions impacted ERISA reimbursement actions.

Professor Baron is scheduled to present the topic (and supporting) paper entitled, “Sereboff v. Mamsi: Have We Reached Endgame? A Potpourri Discussion” on September 8, 2006 in Deadwood, South Dakota, at the Fall Seminar hosted by the South Dakota Trial Lawyers Association.

Professor Baron has served as a member of the Board of Directors for Springhill Insurance Company since 2001.

Professor Baron published the 6th edition of his family law book, “Cases and Materials on Family Law for the South Dakota Lawyer” in August, 2005. This handsome hardcover book is widely used by South Dakota lawyers and judges. During the 2002 legislative session, Professor Baron assisted the State Bar and the South Dakota legislature in the drafting of new statutes which address the legal standards to be accorded to non-parents seeking custody of minor children. He has, since 1991, served as the State Reporter for South Dakota for the American Bar Association’s project, “Family Law in the Fifty States” annually published in the Family Law Quarterly.

Professor Baron has authored numerous law review articles on the topics of Insurance, Civil Procedure and Family Law. Professor Baron’s various law review articles have been cited and quoted with approval by state supreme courts and appellate courts in Alabama, Arkansas, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, North Carolina, North Dakota, Puerto Rico, South Dakota, Texas, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. His articles on subrogation have also been cited in written opinions by federal district courts in Nebraska, Illinois and New Jersey.

Professor Baron also continues to operate USDLAW, the electronic list serve which allows the free flow of communication on matters of interest to SD lawyers, judges and students of the law. Over 350 lawyers and several South Dakota judges are subscribed to this list serve.
