Professor Srinivasan Ragothaman

Srinivasan (Srini) Ragothaman
is currently Professor of Accounting at the University of
South Dakota (USD). He holds a B.Commerce degree in business from the
University of Madras, (India); an MS in Business Administrative
Studies from Iowa State University (Ames, IA, USA) and a Ph.D. in
Business (Accounting Emphasis) from the University of Kansas (Lawrence,
KS, USA). Professor Srinivasan Ragothaman is also a qualified Chartered Accountant
(from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India).
Dr. Ragothaman teaches in the undergraduate and graduate accounting / business programs at USD. Professor Ragothaman has received numerous Faculty Development, Siouxland International Project and Bush grants from the University of South Dakota that are awarded for teaching enhancements at USD. In addition, he was awarded the coveted "Governor Janklow Teaching with Technology Grant" in 1999. His teaching experience (at graduate and undergraduate levels) includes: Auditing, Accounting Systems, International Accounting, and Principles of Financial and Managerial accounting. Prior to joining academia, Professor Ragothaman worked in various managerial positions including as Programmer, Audit Senior, Internal Auditor, and Accountant for large national businesses for a period of about 8 years in India and Bahrain. Professor Ragothaman’s research interests are in the areas of asset writedowns, auditing and accounting issues, artificial intelligence and expert systems, neural networks and data mining, electronic commerce, and use of technology in business education. Dr. Ragothaman has published over twenty articles in various journals including International Journal of Intelligent Systems in Accounting, Finance & Management, Expert Systems with Applications: An International Journal, Advances in Accounting, Quarterly Journal of Business and Economics, Heuristics: the Journal of Intelligent Technologies, International Journal of Applied Quality Management, The Journal of Education for Business, the Business Journal, New Review of Applied Expert Systems and Emerging Technologies, Human Systems Management, International Journal of Management, IBS Computing Quarterly, the College Student Journal, Ethics and Critical Thinking Journal, the Journal of Computing in Small Colleges, and the South Dakota Business Review. He has published over 35 short articles and abstracts in refereed conference proceedings. Dr. Ragothaman has made over 42 presentations at national and regional conferences. Professor Ragothaman has received several research grants at USD including the Clifford Graese/KPMG research fellowships, the USD Research Enhancement Awards and the USD Proposal Incentive award. Professor Ragothaman has been very active in the University governance through his service on several department, college, and university level committees. He is a member of the American Accounting Association and the Decision Sciences Institute and was national Secretary/Treasurer of Artificial Intelligence / Emerging Technologies Section of the American Accounting Association.
