Village Star Program Introduction 乡村之星计划介绍

 

 

 

            This program is aimed to help an elementary school and a middle school in rural China.

Shiao-An-Cha Elementary School and Da-An middle school are located on hilly mountains in GanSu province in Northwest China. The elementary school was founded inside a cave more than 80 years ago by two local families. Since then, the school was rebuilt twice nearby the cave and has produced many graduates who have made significant contributions to local economy and education in the area and beyond.

          These accomplishments, however, were made possible by the teachers and village families through unbelievable hardship, poverty and frugality. Da-An town where the school is located was one of the poorest and least developed areas of mainland China. The underdevelopment was mainly a result of its isolated geographical location and prolonged drought. Da-An has a total of 10 villages with about 2900 households scattered over an area of 131 km2. In each village, clusters of about four to five households were within a 10 to 40-mimites walk of each other.

          Shao-An-Cha school currently has five teaches and about 150 students arranged in five grades. The students’ age ranges from 7- to 13 years. The teachers are not county employers and are only paid by local finance for their basic living necessities. The students, particularly girls, often had to drop out from school to help family in farming, even when selectively admitted to a middle school to continue their education.

          DaAn middle school was founded by the local government and the graduates from Shao-An-Cha continue their education at DaAn middle school。

          这个计划是为了帮助中国边远农村的一个小学和一个初中而设立的。

          小安岔小学和大安中学坐落于中国西北部甘肃省的群山之中。80年前，当地的两个家族在窑洞中创立了小安岔小学。从那以后，这个学校在窑洞附近被重建过两次，它为当地及周边地区培养了很多人才。

          这些成就来之不易，是教师和村民们在贫穷的环境中，省吃俭用，克服了难以置信的困难才得以实现的。学校的所在地大安是中国大陆最贫困和发展最落后的地区之一。地理位置和常年的干旱是造成这一现象的主要原因。在大安131平方公里的土地上散落着10个村庄和2900户居民。在每一个村庄里，散布的民居点每处一般有4-5户人家，民居点彼此之间要有10到40分钟左右的路程。

          小安岔小学目前拥有教师5名，学生 150名，这些学生分布在五个不同的年级中。学生的年龄从7岁到13岁不等。由于这些乡村教师不是县里所聘用的正式职工，所以他们只能从当地领取仅够基本生活需要的工资。这些学生大部分是女孩，他们常常会辍学去帮助家中务农，甚至有些已经被选入中学继续深造的学生也会因为家境不好而放弃学业。

隶属当地政府的大安中学接受来自小安岔小学的毕业生。
